In short

An AI interview coach is software that prepares you for job interviews through structured practice. It turns your experience into STAR answers, runs mock interviews for the role you target, scores each answer on structure, specificity and impact, points out what to fix and schedules your preparation so you arrive with rehearsed stories instead of improvised ones.

Interviews reward rehearsal more than talent

Interviewers ask a fairly small set of questions in many forms: tell me about a conflict, a failure, a hard decision, a time you led without authority, a project you are proud of. Candidates who do well are rarely the ones with the most impressive history. They are the ones who have already said their best stories out loud several times, trimmed them to two minutes and know which story fits which question.

Nora is built for that kind of preparation. She does not hand you a list of model answers to memorise. She extracts stories from your own work, structures them, and then makes you deliver them under mild pressure until they sound natural.

02

STAR answers built from your own experience

STAR stands for situation, task, action and result. It is the format most behavioural interviewers expect, even when they never name it. The common mistake is spending half the answer on the situation and almost none on what you personally did. Nora checks the balance: a short setup, a clear statement of your responsibility, most of the time on your actions, and a result with a number or a visible consequence.

In the first sessions she asks about projects, conflicts and mistakes from the last few years and drafts each one as a STAR outline. You correct the facts, she tightens the wording, and the story goes into your behavioural bank.

STAR partShare of a two minute answerWhat Nora checks
SituationAbout 15 percentEnough context to follow, no backstory the panel does not need
TaskAbout 10 percentYour responsibility stated plainly, separate from the team's
ActionAbout 55 percentSpecific steps you took, in "I" form, with the reasoning behind them
ResultAbout 20 percentA number, a decision or a change, plus what you learned
03

The behavioural bank covers the questions before they are asked

A good bank has eight to twelve stories, and each story can answer several question types. Nora tags every story with the competencies it proves, such as ownership, conflict, influence, failure, ambiguity, customer focus and leadership, and then shows you the gaps. If nothing in your bank covers a failure, that becomes a task for the week.

  • Coverage map. Each competency the target company lists is matched to at least two stories.
  • Story variants. A short 60 second version for screening calls and a full version for panel rounds.
  • Follow-up questions. For every story, the three questions an interviewer is most likely to ask next, with your prepared reply.
  • Role fit. Stories reordered for each job description you paste in.
04

Mock interviews with scoring show which answers still break

On Pro, Teams and Enterprise, Nora runs scored mock interviews. You describe the role and the round, for example a behavioural round for a product manager at a mid size software company, and she plays the interviewer. She asks, listens, follows up when the answer is vague and moves on when time is up, much like a real panel would.

After the mock you get a score for each answer on structure, specificity, ownership, impact and length, plus the single change that would raise it most. Running the same round three times in a week and watching the scores is usually enough to fix the weakest stories. Personal plan members can practise answers in normal sessions and get written feedback, but scored mock drills belong to Pro and the company plans. Our guide to mock interviews and STAR answers goes through a full example.

Score lineWhat a 2 of 5 sounds likeWhat a 5 of 5 sounds like
StructureStory wanders, result missingClear STAR order in under two minutes
Specificity"We improved the process""I cut review time from five days to two"
OwnershipMostly "we", unclear roleYour decisions named, team credited where due
ImpactNo outcome or only effortMeasurable result and why it mattered
05

A two week plan when the interview date is already set

Many people arrive with an interview booked and little time. Nora compresses the roadmap: the first days go to understanding the role and building the bank, the middle to mock rounds on the weakest competencies, and the last days to short, confident versions and questions for the interviewer. With a longer horizon of three months, the same structure stretches across several applications and companies, and the plan correction adjusts after each real interview.

You can also upload material for review: your CV against a job description, a written take-home answer, a presentation for a case round. Nora comments inline and checks whether the material supports the stories you plan to tell. If the job search is part of a bigger move, Jonah, the AI career coach, handles the longer plan, and engineers often pair Nora with Ravi, the AI coding mentor, for technical rounds.

06

What Nora does and does not do

Nora is an AI persona built on widely used interview preparation methods. She does not have inside knowledge of any company's hiring process, does not join your real interview and never feeds you answers during it. She prepares you beforehand and helps you review afterwards, which is where the improvement happens.

How to prepare for a behavioural interview with an AI interview coach

  1. 01

    Paste the job description

Nora extracts the competencies the role values and the round types you are likely to face.

  2. 02

    Build the story bank

Describe eight to twelve real situations and turn each into a STAR outline with a measurable result.

  3. 03

    Check coverage

Make sure each competency has at least two stories, and fill the gaps with new examples.

  4. 04

    Run scored mock rounds

Do one mock round per day in the last week and focus on the lowest scoring answers.

  5. 05

    Debrief after the real interview

Note the questions you were asked and how you answered, so the next round starts stronger.

Questions about the AI interview coach

Can an AI interview coach really prepare me for a real panel?

It prepares the part you control: your stories, their structure and your delivery under follow-up questions. It cannot predict every question, but a bank of eight to twelve rehearsed stories covers most behavioural rounds.

Does Nora do technical interviews?

She handles behavioural rounds, case style questions and presentation rounds. For coding and system design practice, Ravi, the AI coding mentor, covers the technical side and works alongside Nora on Pro.

Are mock interviews included in every plan?

Scored mock interviews are part of Pro, Teams and Enterprise and count toward your monthly message allowance. On Personal you can still draft and refine answers with written feedback.

Is it voice or text?

Sessions are text based in the web app. Many candidates read their answers aloud while typing them, which is close enough to build the habit of a two minute answer.

Will the answers sound scripted?

Nora works from outlines, not scripts. You learn the structure and the key numbers of each story, and the wording stays your own, which is what makes the answers sound natural.

What if I fail the interview anyway?

Bring the questions you were asked to the next session. Nora updates the bank, adds the missing story and adjusts the plan for the next application.
