In short
An AI language tutor is software that teaches and coaches a learner toward a target language level. It places you on the CEFR scale, builds a spaced repetition schedule for vocabulary, runs conversation drills at your level, corrects essays and emails with explanations and checks progress each week against a plan with clear milestones.
Your level on the CEFR scale sets the whole plan
The Common European Framework of Reference describes six levels, from A1 to C2, in terms of what you can do rather than what you have studied. Lucas starts with eight to twelve adaptive questions that cover reading, writing and conversation tasks, and places each skill on the scale. Many adults are uneven: reading at B2, speaking at B1, writing formal emails at A2. The radar shows that unevenness so practice goes where it is needed.
Then you set a goal with a horizon of 3, 6 or 12 months, such as "run project meetings in German by March" or "pass a B2 exam in Spanish". Lucas checks whether the goal is realistic for the time you can give it and proposes a version that is, rather than a target you will quietly abandon.
| Level | What you can do | Typical goal at this stage |
|---|---|---|
| A2 | Handle routine exchanges and simple messages | Order, book and ask for help without switching languages |
| B1 | Deal with most travel and familiar work topics | Follow a meeting and give a short update |
| B2 | Discuss complex topics with reasonable fluency | Negotiate, present and write professional emails |
| C1 | Use the language flexibly for work and study | Lead meetings and write reports without heavy editing |
Spaced repetition puts vocabulary in long-term memory
Spaced repetition shows a word again just before you would forget it, at growing intervals such as one day, three days, a week and a month. Lucas builds the deck from your goal and from your own sessions: words you looked up, phrases you got wrong in a drill, expressions from the email you uploaded. A deck built from your life sticks better than a generic list of a thousand common words.
Daily reviews take ten to fifteen minutes. As an example of the arithmetic: adding 15 new items a day, five days a week, gives about 300 new items in a month, and the schedule keeps older ones coming back so they are not lost. If you skip three days, the queue is rebalanced rather than piling up.
Conversation drills at the edge of your level
Speaking improves through conversation that is slightly harder than comfortable. Lucas runs typed conversation drills built around your goal: a supplier call, a job interview, a doctor's appointment, small talk before a meeting. He keeps the language at your level plus a little, waits for your answer, and after the drill lists the three corrections that matter most, with the correct form and a short reason.
Drills repeat with variation. The second supplier call changes the problem, so you practise the structure rather than memorising lines. Your corrections feed back into the spaced repetition deck.
- Scenario drills. Real situations from your goal, not textbook dialogues.
- Error patterns. Recurring mistakes, such as word order or tense choice, tracked across sessions.
- Register practice. The same message written casually and formally, so you learn when to use which.
Essay and email review with explanations you can learn from
Upload an essay, a cover letter, a report or a set of work emails and Lucas corrects them inline. The rubric checks grammar and spelling, vocabulary range and accuracy, coherence and paragraph structure, register and tone for the reader, and task completion, meaning whether the text does what it was meant to do. Each correction is labelled so you can see whether your errors are mostly grammar or mostly word choice.
Personal includes 10 material reviews a month with files up to 10 MB, and Pro includes 30 with files up to 25 MB. Counters run per month, so removing a document later does not return the review it used.
| What you upload | What Lucas focuses on |
|---|---|
| Work email | Register, politeness formulas, clear request and deadline |
| Exam-style essay | Structure, linking words, range of vocabulary, word count |
| Cover letter | Tone, formal conventions, avoiding literal translations |
| Meeting notes or report | Precision, consistent tense, concise sentences |
Who Lucas helps, and what he does not cover
Lucas suits adults learning a language for work, relocation, exams or study, from A2 upward. Complete beginners can start too, though early levels move fastest with some audio and listening material alongside. Professionals preparing to interview abroad often pair him with Nora, the AI interview coach, and people moving countries for a new role add Jonah, the AI career coach.
He is a fictional AI persona that practises with you in writing inside a web app that works in any modern browser on phone, tablet or laptop, with no install needed. He does not issue certificates, and an exam level estimate from Lucas is guidance, not an official result.

Questions about the AI language mentor
Which languages can I learn with the AI language tutor?
Major languages such as English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish work well, along with many others. Tell Lucas your target language and your native language in the first session so explanations are pitched correctly.
Can I practise speaking out loud?
Conversation drills are typed. They train sentence building, vocabulary and the reactions you need when speaking. For pronunciation, combine them with listening practice and a speaking partner.
How fast will I move up a level?
It depends on the time you put in and your starting point. Moving one CEFR band commonly takes several months of regular practice. Lucas sets a pace you can keep and corrects the plan each month.
Can it prepare me for a language exam?
Yes, it can rehearse exam-style writing and reading tasks and estimate your level. The estimate is guidance and the official exam decides the result.
What counts toward my monthly limit?
Messages in sessions and drills count toward the monthly and daily message allowance, and uploaded documents count as reviews. You see all counters in your panel.
Is there an app to download?
No download is needed. AiMentoring is a web app that runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet or laptop.
